But what exactly made 90s minimalism so influential, and why does it continue to inspire designers and appear in modern collections today?

It's no secret that fashion trends come and go with the seasons. The moment a style starts to "pop off," it’s already beginning to fade. In today’s fast-paced digital world, social media plays a major role in accelerating these trend cycles. With our ever-decreasing attention spans, we are constantly searching for the next big thing, making it difficult for any trend to maintain longevity. What was once considered fashionable can quickly become outdated, replaced by something newer, bolder, and more exciting. This rapid turnover keeps the fashion industry in a state of constant evolution while also questioning sustainability and the true value of personal style.

In the past year I have tried my hardest to steer away from buying into fashion trends and only buying pieces that I know I love and see myself wearing for years to come. I think it’s super important to have a conversation with yourself when buying clothes - or truly anything for that matter.

As someone who genuinely loves shopping, these conversations are essential. I often find myself getting carried away while browsing through the racks, tempted by all the options. That is why I remind myself of the reason I came shopping in the first place. If a piece does not align with that purpose, then it is most likely a want rather than a need.

Sure, indulging in our wants from time to time can be fun—after all, everyone has them. However, as a society, our desires are constantly shifting. Just because something feels like a must-have today does not mean it will still hold the same appeal three weeks from now.
